Surrender of license and registration after suspension
(a) Any person whose driver’s license shall have been suspended under any provision of this chapter shall immediately return his or her license to the department. If any person shall fail to return such license to the department, the department shall direct any peace officer to secure possession thereof and to return it to the department. (b) Any person willfully failing to return his or her driver’s license as required in subsection (a) of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $500.00 or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

Any person whose driver’s license or nonresident’s operating privilege has been suspended under this chapter and who, during such suspension, drives any motor vehicle upon any highway, except where permitted under this chapter, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprison- ment for not less than five days nor more than six months and there may be imposed in addition thereto a fine of not more than $500.00.
